Rabbit “Benjamin” was hit by a car in Burgenland – and was very lucky. He was rescued from the street. And not given up.
Many rabbits die in daily traffic. One was lucky. The animal collided with a car and ended up on the road, but it was not there yet. His personal guardian angel came by, collected the injured long-eared bat and took it first to the doctor and then to the Oggau nature aid.
Severe trauma
“The X-ray showed that nothing was broken,” says Kathi Michels of the nature aid. “But he has severe craniocerebral trauma.” The rabbit showed very clearly that he wants to live – Kathi Michels and her partner Franz Berger gave him the name “Benjamin”.
After a week of care, he can sit upright again, but not yet walk. So Franz grabs him every day and at least trains his front legs with him. With the help of cloth, he acts as the hind legs of the animal.
Wheelchair for the rabbit
“Since we don’t know how long it will take for his legs to work again or if it will ever work again, we decided to buy him a wheelchair,” says Kathi Michels, who, along with her partner besides “Benjamin,” has about 100 care for other animals. He will probably spend the rest of his life at the station in Oggau.
If you would like to help the two, donations of food and money are always gladly accepted. Donation account: Wild Animal Aid Oggau, account: AT053301200001015858
