As reported, numerous Russian oligarchs have objected to the EU sanctions. Now a high-profile case has gone out in favor of the plaintiff. It’s Violetta Prigozchina, the mother of mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin!
The General Court of the European Union on Wednesday annulled the restrictive measures against Prigozhina. The family connection with her son is not enough to justify inclusion on the sanctions lists.
Successful lawsuit in court
On 23 February 2022 – a day before the Russian attack on Ukraine – Prigozchina was denied access to and blocked accounts by the EU Council. The reason given at the time was that she also owned the company Concord Management and Consulting LLC, which belongs to the Concord Group, which was founded by her son and owned by him until 2019. She is also the owner of other businesses associated with her son.
Therefore, the conclusion at the time was that the Russian had supported actions and policies that undermined Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence. Prigozchina took the sanctions to court.
