On the occasion of the vote on the 2024 Navarre budget, Navarrese farmers and ranchers took the protest to the doors of the Navarre parliament. Several have tried to gain access inland and there have been moments of tension.
A group of Navarrese farmers and ranchers, mainly from the F6 platform, tried to enter the Navarre parliament on Thursday during the debate on the Community’s general budgets for 2024 and there were moments of tension.
After a struggle, the provincial police closed the main entrance door of the building and prevented the entry of the demonstrators, who had gathered in front of the Navarrese Chamber headquarters since the early hours.
A representation of various agricultural associations and unions (UAGN, EHNE, UCAN and F6) could follow the start of the debate from the guest stand. Some have been repeatedly warned by the Speaker of the House, Unai Hualde, because of their attitude. And they responded with applause and cheers to the intervention of UPN spokesman Javier Esparza.
Then it was the turn of PSN spokesperson Ramón Alzórriz, whose first words were met with anger by some farmers, who left the platform and joined the protest outside.
In the debate, two amendments were submitted regarding the situation of farmers, one from UPN and one from the government partners (PSN, Geroa Bai and Contigo-Zurekin); the first was rejected.
