Despite all the protests, the French Senate passed the decisive article for the planned increase of the retirement age from 62 to 64 years. 201 senators voted in favor early Thursday morning in Paris, to 115. Debate over the entire pension reform is expected to continue throughout the day.
The planned pension reform provides for an increase in the retirement age from 62 to 64 years. There is huge backlash against them, with nationwide protests in some cases over a million taking to the streets in recent weeks (see video above).
At the same time, there were nationwide strikes, leading to bottlenecks at gas stations and numerous train cancellations. The strikes and protests are expected to resume on Thursday.

The minimum pension will be increased
With the reform, the French government wants to ensure that the French continue to work longer in order to prevent a deficit in the pension fund. In addition, the minimum pension is increased to 1,200 euros for a full contribution period. The recruitment of seniors should be encouraged.
The massive wave of protests across the country that has been going on for weeks is not just against pension reform. It is also an expression of general dissatisfaction with politics and public concern about the rise in prices.
