The 64-year-old from Lower Austria, who confessed to killing his wife with a chisel in mid-October, is charged with murder. The crime took place in Oberwaltersdorf at the end of August. The Defendant initially stated that he had found the victim in the morning hours of August 24, 2022 and had been called as a witness. The man was arrested a day later. There was a “strong suspicion”, police said at the time. Pre-trial detention was imposed.
In October last year, the 64-year-old then reportedly confessed to the bloody act. According to the autopsy, the 57-year-old died after a blow to the head. The woman suffered stab wounds.
Picked up the chisel after a fight
As the Wiener Neustadt prosecutor’s office explained to the “Krone” in October, the 64-year-old grabbed the chisel after a morning quarrel with his wife and hit her about ten times. He then called the emergency services himself. The dispute is said to have been preceded by marital difficulties and humiliation. Divorce was imminent.
While the defense continues to plead manslaughter, the prosecutor’s office has filed charges of murder, official spokesman Erich Habitzl confirmed at the request of a report by the “Kurier”. A date for the jury hearing has not yet been set.
