After missile strikes – Zaporizhia nuclear power plant supplied with emergency power from generators

Date:

According to the Ukrainian operator, the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant was cut off from the regular power supply after the large-scale Russian missile attacks. The occupied facility in the southern town of Enerhodar is currently powered by diesel generators. Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko spoke of a “barbaric, massive attack” by the Russians.

There is currently “no indication of increased radiation in the area of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant,” the ministry said. The radiation protection department is following further developments and will provide further information.

The area around Zaporizhia was hit by rockets a few days ago and people were killed.

It is the sixth time since the start of the Russian offensive war, more than a year ago, that the nuclear power plant has had to go into emergency operation.

The fuel in the factory is enough for ten days.

Supply interrupted for no apparent reason?
A spokesman for the Russian operator of the Rosenergoatom nuclear power plant confirmed the disconnection of the regular power grid to the agency Interfax. At the same time, he accused the Ukrainian side of cutting off supplies for no apparent reason.

In addition to Zaporizhia, other parts of the country have also been hit by rockets since the early hours of the morning, including the capital Kiev. The Odessa and Kharkiv regions also reported attacks on power plants and the resulting power outages.
