Visible tattoos by the police will be allowed in the future – the “Krone” story is making waves. Black and red union members oppose it.
Young people need to be recruited – young, dedicated women and men who should no longer be denied a career in the police force because of a tattooed “dot”. As reported, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) announced the end of the antiquated ban on visible tattoos in the “Krone”, thus causing a palpable dispute. There is fierce resistance within the police!
Especially in the ranks of the “older semesters” in the force – with unusual unity, the black and red police union members Reinhard Zimmermann (59) and Hermann Greylinger (62) protest against the ministerial initiative. “If he thinks this solves the recruitment problem, he’s gone on a totally wrong path, the ‘output’ will be manageable,” said FSG chairman Greylinger. FCG boss Zimmermann says: “The population deserves reasonable action from the police.”
But how exactly do you define reason? Karner says very clearly: “A lot has changed in society, especially among young people. Tattoos are now part of the culture of life, which is taken into account by the relaxation of the changed regulations.” But also in the future, every visible “beak” must be individually checked and assessed.
Candidates with Nazi glorification, skulls and the like still cannot serve on the executive branch. The tried-and-true union duo don’t care. Changes are undesirable.
