In Tyrol, a cloudy weekend with snow in the valleys is just around the corner. All winter sports enthusiasts should be careful: the avalanche situation is again treacherous.
If UBIMET meteorologist Martin Templin’s forecast is correct, the residents of Innsbruck were greeted with snowflakes on Saturday morning. But especially in the far west of Tyrol, a lot of snow should have fallen at a high altitude. In the Arlberg region, about 25 centimeters of fresh snow is conceivable on Saturday. Since it also becomes stormy at high altitude, the avalanche danger increases significantly after the last favorable conditions.
“On Saturday we will give level 3 for the western regions – significant avalanche danger,” says Patrick Nairz from the Tyrolean avalanche warning service. The fresh snowdrift is responsible for this.
Partly heavy rain on Sunday
Meteorologist Templin also only offers bad weather forecasts for Sunday: “It’s raining again, sometimes it rains a lot.” The snow line rises to about 1400 meters.
“At higher altitudes in the west, the warm front will allow up to 30 centimeters of fresh snow again from Sunday,” says Patrick Nairz. The avalanche danger in these regions will then be of the order of a “sharp” triple. “Even individual winter sports enthusiasts can cause avalanches relatively easily,” warns the expert. In the east, attention should be paid to fresh snowdrifts at high altitudes.
Spring again on Monday
