In international comparison, Austria is an organic model country and in Styria the curve is rising sharply year after year. This year, however, the organic sector has suffered a slight setback for the first time in a long time: at the start of the new AMA subsidy period in 2023, about five percent fewer farmers applied for the organic programme.

A dropout is the dairy farmer Peter Jöchlinger from Mautern in Obersteiermark. On March 1, he said goodbye after eight years with a heavy heart and is now running his business conventionally again.
