Six and a half hours late in Vienna! For the Dacho couple, the journey home from Budapest became torture!
Terrible end to a wonderful weekend: Mr. and Mrs. Dacho from Klosterneuburg treated themselves to a lovely time in Budapest, and the couple returned Monday afternoon. But the travel nightmare has already started after the first stop.
Two hours without light and heating in the compartment
“Suddenly the train made an emergency stop and stopped moving. Announcements were only made in Hungarian – we sat in the compartment for two hours with no light or heating.” Until the couple was put on a crowded bus and driven to a small train station in the middle of nowhere. Where, after another hour of waiting, the two could finally take the Railjet to Vienna.
But the joy lasted only to the limit: “In Hyegeshalom it was said again: ‘Train stops here’ – get out! Again we had to wait for another train. This too was too late. And we were out in the cold.”
packets of Mannerschnitten as compensation
After two in the morning, the couple arrived exhausted and frozen to the bone at Vienna’s main train station. “We complained – but since we had no written confirmation of the cancellations, we received two packs of Mannerschnitten from ÖBB and, as a gesture of goodwill, 57 euros in compensation. We had paid 115 euros for the return journey”
