For the first time since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, China is allowing foreign tourists back into the country. All types of visas will be issued from Wednesday. Visa requirements for areas that did not require a visa before the pandemic no longer apply. This also applies to cruise ships calling at the port of Shanghai.
Visa-free access to Guangdong’s southern manufacturing center for foreigners from Hong Kong and Macau will also be reintroduced. The ministry also said that foreigners with visas issued before March 28, 2020 and whose validity has not yet expired, can also enter China.
Boosting the tourism sector is likely to help revive the economy hit by strict coronavirus lockdowns, which last year saw one of its slowest growth rates in nearly half a century.
