A large contingent of police searched kindergartens and apartments on Thursday. The Public Prosecution Service is investigating four suspects on suspicion of serious fraud and four other offences.
The Minibambini scandal has become a criminal case: Thursday, searches and seizures took place in all former kindergartens and at the residential addresses of the operating family. Those affected were apparently surprised by the carefully planned police action at a total of 25 locations.
The police even had to break down the front door
According to reports, kindergarten teacher Vesna Jezdimirovic wanted to deny police access to her apartment. The door is said to have finally been broken open by WEGA officials. As is now known, the Office of the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor (WKStA) has been investigating this case for more than a week: it is now suspected that millions in funds have been misused.
Four suspects, many lines of inquiry
As the “Krone” confirmed from internal sources, the major raid was now ordered due to “imminent danger”. Large quantities of documents and data carriers were seized. The police action lasted until late in the afternoon. In addition to the raid, interrogations of the directors of the kindergarten have probably also taken place.
Parents stumbled into police action with children
It is said that money from the bankrupt estate should flow to a shopping center in Serbia. On the other hand, only about 500 euros were found in the official accounts of the kindergartens. The presumption of innocence applies to all involved. In one case, even parents with their children are said to have encountered the police action: they wanted to collect stuffed animals and other personal items from the closed kindergartens and were kindly escorted out of the kindergartens by the police officers.
In the meantime, the former operators are being “caught” by detectives: in addition to the public prosecutor’s office, the curator is also busy clarifying the matter: he is legally obliged to do everything he can to protect the creditors. This also includes that he must report if his suspicion is confirmed that someone wants to make unlawful use of the bankrupt estate.
