ÖBB customers are complaining to the “Krone” telephone on Friday morning: “Currently there is chaos at Graz main station. There are currently no trains departing and of course no one knows what is going on. So far there is no rail replacement service yet set up.” Clearly IT work during the night was to blame…
“My daughter has been waiting for three hours”
One of the callers complained on the “Krone” phone: “Obviously there must be a major technical problem, and it has been since at least 5:30 am.” There are no trains departing, total chaos reigns here!” Another is annoyed: “My daughter wanted to go to Windischgarsten just before 07:00 and is still waiting three hours later. There is no information at all!”
ÖBB spokesman Herbert Hofer told the “Krone” that there was no chaos, but that there had actually been a train cancellation. The error was caused by maintenance work on the IT system. The problem persists.
Many affected, trains are cancelled, delays throughout Austria
Was it a cyber attack? “No, we can rule that out,” says Hofer. We regret the inconvenience to travelers. The fact is that many people have been affected, trains are delayed or canceled throughout Austria. The end is not yet in sight at the moment.
