A 22-year-old Romanian sneak thief in Ottensheim cheated a 93-year-old from whom she stole money and jewelery with the tried and tested teaser. That was in the summer. Now the crook in Linz was recognized and arrested by criminals.
A 22-year-old Romanian woman is accused of being a beggar in a settlement on June 24, 2022 in Ottensheim and sneaking into an unlocked home of a 93-year-old woman. In the bedroom of the apartment building, the Romanian woman rummaged through a bedside table and stole jewelry and cash in the five-digit euro range.
93-year-old surprised perpetrator
When leaving the house, the beggar was surprised by the 93-year-old resident and asked what she was doing in her house. The Romanian stated that she had nothing to drink and asked the homeowner for a glass of water, which was handed to the Romanian by the elderly woman. The Romanian then left the house. A few minutes later, the pensioner noticed that the jewels and money had disappeared and lodged a complaint with the police. In the course of the criminal investigation, the 22-year-old Romanian was identified as the suspected perpetrator.
Recognized and arrested in Linz
Since the suspect had fled to Romania with the stolen goods after the crime, the Linz public prosecutor’s office ordered the arrest of the perpetrator. On Friday, the fleeing Romanian was recognized and arrested in the Linz city area by EGS Upper Austria investigators. The Romanian was transferred to the Linz prison.
Don’t let strangers in the house!
There is a warning against this kind of trick theft (water glass trick) – under no circumstances let strangers into your house.
