At least 16 people were killed and 47 injured in a bus crash in Nicaragua. The bus was speeding on a highway in the western Central American country on Wednesday. After a collision with a car, the bus fell off a cliff.
Photos show that the bus had come to a stop on a slope.
At least 13 of the dead were from Venezuela, Nicaraguan state media reported Thursday, citing police. There was initially no further information about the passengers or the destination of the bus.
The driver reportedly survived and was arrested.
Nicaragua is on the route of many migrants from South American countries such as Venezuela or Cuba who want to emigrate to the United States thousands of kilometers north.
