Apparently due to a conspiracy theory, a man from Flachgau (50) picked up the phone on Sunday morning and threatened Austrocontrol with a bomb at Salzburg Airport.
He would have felt threatened and harassed by planes and their contrails. Reportedly, the man, who is said to be part of the opposition scene, believes in the so-called “chemtrail” theory, according to which aircraft contrails actually contain chemicals and poisons. He says he doesn’t remember the call.
suspect arrested
The man enthused the population and security forces. The Public Prosecution Service speaks of “land coercion”. The 50-year-old was arrested by the Cobra on Sunday. “The Salzburg public prosecutor’s office has requested pre-trial detention because of the risk of committing a crime,” confirms Elena Haslinger of the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office.
Further actions are therefore likely. The court saw it differently. The request for pre-trial detention was rejected on Monday. The stated reason for detention of the “risk of committing a criminal offense” would therefore not exist. The alleged perpetrator is therefore free again.
