This could have ended badly! The armored vehicle of Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu caught fire during his visit to the Ukrainian capital. The Estonian ambassador Kaimo Kuusk was also in the car.
“I was sitting there with Kaimo Kuusk in the back seat and suddenly Kaimo said something smelled. And then suddenly flames broke out behind us,” Reinsalu reported at a press conference in the Estonian capital Tallinn on Thursday. The staff could hardly open the doors from the outside and the tailgate was also blocked.
“Fortunately, the rear doors finally opened, because the car would have turned into a gas chamber in seconds,” said the foreign minister. No one was injured in the incident in Kiev on Tuesday evening. Reinsalu has not provided any information about the possible cause of the fire.
Vehicle is just a wreck
Only a wreck remains of the armored vehicle that was made available to the ambassador of the Baltic EU and NATO country by the Estonian police and border security service. It must now be examined whether the Ukrainians can still use it in any way, says Reinsalu. Kuusk, on the other hand, gets a new company car.
