According to authorities, the small Russian town of Lgov in the Kursk border region was bombarded with rockets by the Ukrainian army for the second time in just a few days on Monday.
Military sources on the Russian side claimed that four of the five missiles from the US HIMARS rocket launchers had been intercepted. The regional government also denied any damage. However, videos from the city showed fires and suggested there were definitely hits.
According to unofficial Ukrainian information, Lgov serves as a staging area for Russian troops. The city had already been shelled on December 25. Lgov is located about 30 kilometers north of the bridgehead in the Kursk region, which is occupied by Ukrainian forces.
Similarly, the city of Rylsk was bombarded with long-range rocket artillery in recent days to slow down the Russian counter-offensive. Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian war of aggression for almost three years.
