The Lehendakari thanked the multinational IBM for choosing the Basque Country as a node in the quantum computer network.

the lehendakari, Inigo Urkulluhas signed an agreement with the multinational IBM to install in Donostia / San Sebastián one of the six latest generation quantum computers in the world, following Canada, South Korea, the United States, Japan and Germany.
Urkullu emphasized that the Basque Country will actively cooperate with the network of quantum computing nodes and contribute all its knowledge to further develop this technology.
Also taking part in this morning’s presentation in Tabakalera were the lehendakari, the Minister of Education, Jokin Bildarratz, and the general delegates of Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.
In his speech, Urkullu acknowledged that it is “very risky to say what future quantum computers will bring us”. In any case, he stated that we must be prepared for the future and “be in a good position when the situation calls for it”.
Today’s event also served to showcase the Basque Quantum Alliance, a project envisaging a direct investment of more than 120 million euros until 2028. Among the most notable actions are a new Ikerbasque center, a new DIPC center, new laboratories for research, IBM-Euskadi Quantum Center,
program to attract international research projects and centers, strengthen educational programs and attract talent, and promote public and private innovation related to quantum in Southern Europe.
