Unscrupulous, agile, dexterous brutal “metal gangs” dismantle the gutters of parish churches in Burgenland in the middle of the night. The trail of the perpetrators stretches from Jennersdorf to the Mattersburg district.
Nothing is sacred to these criminals! As previously reported, copper thieves tampered with the Roman Catholic Church in Burg in the Oberwart district. Under cover of darkness, they tore the rain gutters from their anchorage and carried away the long chunks of prey. With great horror, the shameful coup d’état was discovered the next morning by a believer from the parish council. The damage ran into the thousands of euros.
Another coup
Now the next place of worship is targeted by a “metal gang”. On Thursday evening, the criminals visited the parish church in Pöttsching in the Mattersburg district. They have removed the gutters at the entrance and on the facade, which cannot be seen from the street.
tracks secured
According to the pastor, the theft of the copper only took place after the church was no longer lit at 10 p.m. “The perpetrators were probably on their way with a low-loader or a van to transport the metal ducts with a length of 40 meters,” say detectives.
Usable traces could be secured at the crime scene. Investigators are now hoping for help from the public. Relevant information is requested from the Neudörfl Police Inspectorate on 059 133 1123 100.
