In Vienna-Donaustadt, a large-scale operation took place in the garden of a family home on Monday, because there were probably explosive, homemade explosives in the soil there. Due to the risk of the salvage work, a temporary construction ban has been imposed. Neighbors had to leave their homes during the action.
A bus also had to be diverted during the rescue work in Donaustadt. After all residents had left their homes, the emergency services started searching for and recovering the explosives.
Explosives that are half a meter underground
Rescue and observation equipment from the harmless service of the Special Forces Directorate were used for the search. After a short search, the explosives were found and recovered about half a meter underground. According to the Viennese police, the continuation of the search yielded no further results. No one was injured during the operation.
Space ban lifted again after salvage
In addition to agents from the State Criminal Investigation Department, the fire department’s investigation area, the local police inspectorate and other police forces, experts from the harmless service of the special forces directorate supported the operation. The Vienna Professional Fire Brigade, the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and the Wiener Linien also supported the successful operation. A total of 68 emergency services with 23 vehicles were deployed. The ban was lifted at the end of the mission.
