Making a small fortune in passing: A Balkan group was fascinated by fast food restaurants in Upper and Lower Austria. Some members had already gained experience in Germany in cracking “Mäci” and committing coups d’état. Now they were presented with the bill – in court in Wels.
“Quickly to the ‘Mäci'” – this was what a Balkan gang of seven (30 to 51 years old) meant different from normal McDonald’s customers. The Kosovars, Serbs and Albanians were after the contents of the safes. In the ooh. Branches in Haag/Hausruck, Eferding and Enns, as well as in Bergland (Lower Austria) were partly chiseled through and safes opened.
The gang made a loot of around €130,000 before being caught under observation in Wels – during the crime they always had their mobile phones switched off so that they could not be located and left no digital traces. DNA evaluations revealed that members may also have been involved in a “Mäci” series of burglaries in Germany.
The sentences: one to 3.5 years in prison, partly suspended – a total of 13.5 years – not final. One of the suspects did not have to go back to prison, he was the only one who had a partly suspended sentence of one year and had already served the unconditional part.
