Burglars used a car as a battering ram in Vienna on Sunday morning. The strangers crashed the vehicle into the front door of a menswear store in the city center and gained entry. They stole several expensive items of clothing. The perpetrators then fled. The getaway car has now been found.
The crime occurred around 5:45 a.m. in the early morning and was captured on surveillance video, according to investigators. Police said the damage amounted to six figures.
The car – a Renault Megane Scenic in blue paint with registration number W-58189F – was stolen from Hollandstrasse in Vienna-Leopoldstadt before the break-in, police spokesman Markus Dittrich reported.

With this, the perpetrators fled after the crime. “We assume that the perpetrators parked the car on federal territory,” said the spokesman. This should come true: As police announced Monday afternoon, the car they were looking for was discovered by a park sheriff. The vehicle was parked on Wallensteinstrasse in the Brigittenau district. The car was secured.
The headquarters of the Vienna State Police are still requesting information about the break-in and asking the population for help.
Witnesses to the crime are requested to contact the Vienna Criminal Police Office in the Central/Eastern Department (01-31310, extension 62800).
