From 2024, the German federal government wants to rely on renewable energy sources when installing new heating systems. For the installation of more climate-friendly models, German citizens will have to spend more than nine billion euros per year until 2028.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs calculates that this would result in savings of around eleven billion euros over an operating period of 18 years. The savings are partly due to the fact that oil and natural gas are expected to become more expensive in the coming years.
Government subsidy for heating replacement
If a heating system is replaced, it must be subsidized by the state. The existing financing for the switch to sustainable heat will be adjusted to absorb the investments in society, according to the ministry. State support should be based not only on the state of the heating system, but also on people’s income.
Financial overload warning
Many owners do not have enough money left over for the expensive renovations in their own house or apartment, according to the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband, citing a commissioned study. “Anyone who owns a house or an apartment is not automatically rich. On the contrary: anyone who has saved his whole life for the house does not build up any wealth.”
Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) said in the ARD “Report from Berlin” on Sunday evening that those who have little money should be “appropriately supported” so that they are not overwhelmed. As long as heat pumps are even more expensive, they should be “reduced to the price of gas heating”.
