Attack in Russia – Kremlin: Killing of military blogger was “act of terrorism”

Date:

Russian propagandist Vladlen Tatarski was murdered on Sunday evening in a café in Russia’s Baltic Sea metropolis of Saint Petersburg. The Kremlin has now classified the killing as a “terrorist attack”. According to the Russian leadership, Ukrainian secret services and Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny are behind the murder. The team of Putin’s opponent vehemently rejects the allegations and in turn sees the Russian domestic secret service FSB as the mastermind.

As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin was immediately notified of the attack, which left more than 30 people injured. The state’s investigative committee announced Monday that a 26-year-old woman named Darya Trepova had been arrested. According to a report from the state news agency Tass, it concerns a Russian national who was previously detained for protesting the war in Ukraine.

Ministry of Interior publishes alleged evidence video
The Interior Ministry in Moscow has released a video in which the alleged perpetrator admits to having been in the cafe on Sunday. She handed over a bust to Tatarski, whose real name is Maxim Fomin, who later exploded. The 40-year-old died, and more than 560,000 people followed him on the Telegram messaging service. When asked who gave her this bust, the suspect said she would say so later.

Peskov accused the Kiev leadership of supporting “terrorist acts” in Russia. It is the second case in which a Russian propagandist has been killed since the Russian offensive war began more than a year ago. Publicist Darja Dugina was killed in a car explosion near Moscow last year.

The alleged perpetrator would have ties to Navalny
Kiev’s secret services planned the “terrorist attack” against Vladlen Tatarski and used a suspect who has since been arrested, the anti-terror committee announced on Monday. According to the anti-terror committee, the arrested woman is said to have ties to the anti-corruption foundation of imprisoned Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny. The media had previously reported that the alleged perpetrator had participated in demonstrations calling for Navalny’s release in the past and, like the leader of the opposition, was a staunch opponent of the war.

For Navalny-Team Russian secret service FSB mastermind
Navalny’s team categorically rejected the allegations. On the contrary, agents of the domestic secret service FSB were responsible for the assassination of the propagandist, opposition members Ivan Zhdanov and Leonid Volkov, who live in exile abroad, said Monday.

The power apparatus has been trying to terrorize the opposition for years, Zhdanov said. For the Russian detectives, the accusation that the opposition was involved in the murder worked out well because Navalny could be sentenced to the maximum sentence for terrorism, he continued.

Schadnow and Volkov accused the FSB of committing political assassinations for years. The FSB itself “eliminated” this blogger, who also criticized the warfare of the Ministry of Defense in Moscow. Because Russia needs not only the external absolute enemy in the form of Ukraine, but also an internal enemy in the form of the Navalny team.

Wagner boss suspects group of radicals behind murder
According to a media report, the number of injured in the alleged bombing of a well-known Russian military blogger in St. Petersburg has risen to 32. Ten of them are in serious condition, Russia’s state news agency RIA reported Monday, citing the ministry of Public health. The head of Wagner’s private army, Yevgeny Prigozhin, sees a group of radicals behind the assassination attempt on the military blogger.

Ukraine speaks of Russian “domestic terrorism”
Ukraine’s presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak said “domestic terrorism” is rampant in Russia. The Russian-installed head of Ukraine’s occupied Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, blamed the government of Ukraine for Tatarsky’s death. Prigozhin, on the other hand, said he would not blame the “Kiev regime”. He also stated that the cafe used to be his. But he left it to “patriotic” activists who held rallies there. Reuters could not independently verify the information.

Prigozhin hailed the blogger as a patriot and dedicated an event to him in the embattled city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. There he had a Russian flag hoisted on the administration building – with Tatarski’s name on the canvas. Wagner’s boss claimed that Bachmut had been taken.

The capture of the administrative center is “legal” proof that Ukraine has lost control of the city. The Ukrainian leadership has always described the situation in Bakhmut as difficult, but has also stressed that it is holding on to the strategically important location. Neither Kiev nor the Russian military leadership in Moscow have confirmed a case of Bakhmut.
