How many people can you fit on a bus? What sounds like the start of a show for “Wetten, dass..?” is currently making passengers on the U4 line in Vienna red with anger.
You know that feeling when the bus drives right in front of you? Imagine that you have been waiting for this bus for a long time, but did not get a seat. This is currently the case for many Wiener Linien customers on the U4. Due to renovation work, U4 passengers between Meidlinger Hauptstrasse and Längenfeldgasse stations must transfer to the train replacement bus service by April 11 at the latest. And this was hopelessly overcrowded on Monday morning – the passengers angry.
Footpath runs up the gauntlet
The footpath remains. Of course you have to share it with bicycles and scooters: where there is normally enough space for both, on Monday there was a dense crowd with constant clinking from impatient cyclists as a constant accompanying noise. But pedestrians and cyclists still have a whole week to get used to the “close relationship” between Meidling and Längenfeldgasse.
By the way, Wiener Linien’s hands are tied. The bus is already on its way in the shortest possible intervals, they say.
