Dangerous incident early Monday evening in the Tyrolean Oberland: Above the Pitztal Landesstraße, a boulder broke loose in a steep section of forest, which then thundered down the valley onto the road! A mailbox passing by this spot at the time was hit by the stone. The accident went smoothly.
The driver and passengers will probably not soon forget this journey with the Postbus. Shortly before 6 p.m., the driver was driving the bus on the L16 Pitztalstraße from St. Leonhard in the direction of Wenns when suddenly a boulder broke loose on a steep forest bank and rolled into the road.
Hit the front of the bus
“The bus was hit in the front by the crashed stone and was severely damaged,” the police said. Good luck with bad luck: both the driver and the occupants escaped with a fright and were unharmed.
The L16 had to be temporarily closed to all traffic in the area where the stone chip had taken place. “The area was then examined by experts from the road maintenance department and several loose stones were removed,” the police said. The roadblock was lifted around 7:40 p.m.
