A 22-year-old allegedly raped three young women between the ages of 16 and 19 in his car, according to the indictment. After a long trial in Innsbruck, however, an acquittal follows.
The pattern was always the same: via the Snapchat app, he had arranged to meet the later victims. Subsequently, several sexual acts took place in his car in a remote parking lot. It was clear to the 22-year-old’s lawyer that this really happened: “The only question is whether it was voluntary or involuntary on the part of the women.”
In his opening speech, the lawyer questioned the credibility of the victims: “The women even wrote to the alleged rapist afterwards.” However, rape or anything like that was never mentioned in these messages and chats.
Prosecutor says “violence involved”
The suspect pleaded “not guilty”. According to the defense lawyer, his client never used violence and did not act against the will of the women.
In her opening speech, the public prosecutor had presented the facts differently: violence, for example by tightly embracing the women, was very much involved and there was no question of the consent of the women. In all three cases, one is dealing with the “crime of rape”. After all, he abused women between the ages of 16 and 19.
They were heard on camera. Then it was discussed – longer than planned. The result: acquittal when in doubt, not legally binding.
