Except for e-bikes and children’s bicycles, everything was there, the 60-year-old admits in the Vienna court. According to the indictment, he would have taken 90 bicycles from cellars. But he didn’t have to break any locks: he had a master key.
It is about a list of 90 stolen bicycles that the Vienna public prosecutor accuses the 60-year-old of. And he wants to be able to remember them all. He discusses wheel by wheel with the judge and explains which ones he took and which ones he didn’t. “Do you remember exactly which bikes you brought? That is inconceivable to me,” doubts Mr Rat in the Viennese court.
The suspect had a master key with him
Of the countless facts for which he largely pleads guilty, according to the defense, not many remain in the end: the Viennese claims to have stolen only 44 pieces from bicycle cellars – as a property management employee he had a master key. But the public prosecutor also suspects him of burglary in the cellar compartments. His dry answer: “Why would I break a door when I have the key?”
According to his defense, he was in financial difficulties. He stole bicycles wherever he could. Only no e-bikes and children’s bicycles. The former is a hard sell, explains the 60-year-old. They would have built-in GPS trackers.
For the commercial burglaries, he lists 21 months on partial probation, seven of which are in prison.
