From the dairies to the manufacturers of mineral water and lemonade: the European Union is forcing them to use new lids. The customers have to get used to it. They still have time for that. The regulation will not really come into force until 2024.
“This is just unreal! Where is the lid now? I must have put it there.” Phrases like these are familiar to most of us, after all, who hasn’t lost the cap on a bottle or a milk carton?
But that will soon be over! The European Union is making searches for closures rarer. A regulation from Brussels states that from next year closures must be firmly attached to disposable plastic packaging with a capacity of up to three litres. The goal: plastic waste should be reduced – and the closures should be recycled along with the corresponding containers.
Berglandmilch has already converted Schärdinger, Stainzer and Lattela
More and more food manufacturers are already applying the EU rules: Berglandmilch has switched to the milk cartons of the Schärdinger and Stainzer brands as well as to Latella, so that the so-called “tethered caps” are used. The new closures are already in use at Coca-Cola, Fanta & Co.
Plant specialists are needed
This sometimes confuses customers, who first suspect an error in production. Other brands at Berglandmilch will only change in the course of this year. Reason: The manufacturers of the packaging systems cannot do it any faster.
