For years, a Styrian primary school teacher downloaded photos and videos of underage boys onto his laptop. The pedagogue has since been sentenced in Graz.
The Styrian primary school teacher must have had a secret passion for underage boys for a long time. Time and time again he attracted attention for his particularly intensive commitment to some children, spending many hours with them and asking them to pose for pictures. “But I never attacked her!” the teacher swears before criminal judge Catherine Bütler in Graz. “We needed the photos for the yearbook.”
Steirer also worked as a children’s tennis coach
But twelve years ago he clearly crossed the line and maneuvered himself into criminal law. From then on, he repeatedly accessed child pornography sites through the Darknet and paid for banned photos and videos. He loaded them onto various data carriers and kept them meticulously arranged. Now he regrets all that. But: “I didn’t watch it every day, I also have many other interests,” says the Styrian, who has also repeatedly given tennis courses for children. “So looking a little isn’t a bad thing, did you think so?” the judge wants to know. “Yes.”
‘Behind every photo is abuse’
“Behind each of these photos, assault and rape are hidden,” prosecutor Hansjörg Bacher inevitably clarifies. The verdict: four months probation and a fine of 2160 euros. He is no longer allowed to practice his activities as a teacher and tennis coach, is also given a probationary period and has to start psychotherapy. The verdict is already final.
