On Thursday afternoon, officials at the police detention center on Alpenstraße noticed the smell of fire. He came out of a cell where a 26-year-old had set fire to paper.
According to the police, the Pakistani set fire to the newspaper with matches. Two police officers in the police detention center immediately opened the cell door of the 26-year-old and brought the man to safety. The Red Cross then took him to Salzburg University Hospital. Because the fire in the cell could be quickly extinguished, an evacuation of the police detention center could be avoided.
Detainees are generally allowed to smoke under the detention order. This means that they are also allowed to have the necessary utensils in the cells.
