The data breaches of the US Department of Defense do not only threaten the United States. Serbia and Egypt are now on display due to alleged military aid. Both nations allegedly betrayed allies.
The major data breach at the Pentagon exposes even more explosive documents. This time the focus: Serbia and Egypt. Both countries allegedly colluded with Ukraine and Russia.
Serbia appears to have supplied or at least agreed to supply arms to Ukraine. This comes from a summary of European governments’ responses to Ukraine’s requests for military training and weapons.
Belgrade is quiet
The government in Belgrade has traditionally maintained close ties with Russia. Despite the EU accession process, the country does not participate in the sanctions against Russia. The government in Moscow asked Serbia in March for an official explanation for the alleged deliveries, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
So far there are no official statements from Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Janusz Bugajski, Eastern Europe expert at the Jamestown Foundation foreign policy institute, said: “If this document is correct, it shows Vucic’s duplicity towards Russia or he is under enormous pressure from Washington to supply arms to Ukraine.”
40,000 missiles for Putin?
Egypt, on the other hand, plans to produce 40,000 missiles for Russia, the Washington Post reports. The North African country is considered a close ally of the US. The United States has been paying billions in military aid to Egypt for decades.
Egypt’s ruler Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has also pledged further support to Putin: Egypt would have planned to supply the Russian regime with artillery shells and gunpowder.
A US government official, who wishes to remain anonymous, was very cautious about Egypt’s possible involvement. “We are not aware of any implementation of this plan,” he told the US newspaper, adding: “We have not seen that before.”
The letters are part of dozens of documents classified as confidential or secret that have been posted on platforms such as Discord in recent weeks.
Egypt refuses military aid
The authenticity of the documents has not yet been independently verified. However, US authorities have admitted to the New York Times that many of the newspapers are genuine and were originally posted on the Internet without any alteration.
According to US broadcaster CNN, an Egyptian official dismissed the allegations as “information absurdity”. Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov also described the information as “fraud”.
