“I order to kill Mr. S. and the residents of the house for espionage”: a Styrian sent this email in November 2022 to, among others, the state of Styria, the federal government and the prosecutor’s office. The mentally ill man appeared in court on Wednesday as a victim. He was admitted.
The letter sent by the 45-year-old was headlined: “Anonymous Murder Order”. If he had any common sense, he would have had to answer as a convicted felon for attempted murder. After all, he distributed the “kill order” quite generously, and according to the prosecutor, the Justice Department and the armed forces also received the email.
Thought neighbor was a terrorist
“I must confess that I wrote the e-mails,” said the person concerned right at the beginning. It was difficult with written evidence, because the Styrian had its electronic devices reset to factory settings with every use. The whole action was preceded by a meeting with the neighbor in the yard. It was not entirely clear who did not greet or address whom, but at least the man wrote his “assignments” after this meeting. He was convinced that the neighbor would prepare “terrorist attacks, kidnappings and drug trafficking”.
Expert expects further declines
The psychiatric expert Manfred Walzl stated that the person concerned had paranoid schizophrenia, which was “largely responsible for the crime”. In 2021, the 45-year-old had sent similar emails, and it was feared that without treatment in the future “psychotic episodes would occur again and again in stressful situations”. Although he is now being treated, he is not yet completely stable, “therefore outpatient therapy is ruled out,” the expert emphasized.
The jury followed these recommendations and ordered a referral to a forensic therapy center. The decision is not yet final.
