Winter road conditions caused fatal traffic accidents in Tyrol from Thursday to Friday. In Kirchdorf (Kitzbühel district), a 30-year-old woman left the road with her car and crashed into two trees with full force. The woman suffered serious injuries. A similar accident happened in the early morning hours in the Ausserfern. A beech tree weighing several tons was uprooted right next to Achenseestraße near Wiesing.
The fatal accident in Kirchdorf happened shortly before 2:30 am. The 30-year-old resident was driving on the B178 Loferer Straße towards Wörgl when she left the road in a slight right turn due to the winter conditions.
Slipped 50 meters along the embankment
“The car then slid for about 50 meters along the embankment before crashing into two trees,” police said. The force of the impact caused serious leg injuries to the driver. After receiving first aid at the scene of the accident, she was taken to hospital by ambulance. The B178 was only passable over one lane during the operation.
Lost control after overtaking
A similar accident a few hours later in Weißenbach in the Ausserfern region of Tyrol. A 31-year-old resident was driving on the slush-covered B198 Lechtal Straße from Reutte towards Lechtal when he overtook another car.
“When categorizing, the man eventually lost control of the car. He went off the road, broke through a pasture fence and eventually crashed into a tree,” the detectives say. The driver suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital in Reutte. There was massive damage to the car.
Heavy tree uprooted
Dangerous scenes on Friday morning also in Wiesing in the Unterland: In Wiesing, above the B181 Achenseestraße, a beech tree weighing several tons was uprooted and threatened to fall onto the road. Road patrol officers came in with a chainsaw and removed the tree.
