A fire destroyed the roof construction of the traditional inn Schendlingen in Bregenz on Saturday afternoon. One resident and four firefighters had to be taken to hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation.
Gasthaus Schendlingen is not only known in Bregenzern. In addition to the restaurant, there are also two apartments in the building. In one of them, a fire broke out on Saturday afternoon after the resident forgot his fries in the oven. The man only became aware of his omission when the kitchen was already on fire and the whole apartment was covered in smoke.
Fortunately for him, the fire department responded quickly – they rescued him from the balcony of his apartment with a ladder. By that time, the flames had already spread to the roof structure. The approximately 100 Floriani disciples managed to get the fire under control relatively quickly.
However, the operation was not without collateral damage: in addition to the residents of the house, four firefighters with suspected smoke inhalation had to be taken to the hospital. The material damage to the building is considerable, the restaurant will probably remain closed for some time.
