Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov has given an indication of the estimated amount of friendly losses since the start of the Russian offensive war. “I can’t give you an exact figure, but I can assure you that it is lower than the death toll from the Turkey earthquake,” he said. According to Turkish sources, more than 50,000 people died in the earthquake.
So far, Ukraine has not provided information on the number of injured and killed. Only estimates exist for the total number of Ukrainian casualties. Kiev considers the figures to be a state secret.
Keep fighting in the east against
Meanwhile, fighting in the east of the country continued undeterred. According to the General Staff in Kiev, Russian forces launched dozens of attacks against Ukrainian defenders’ positions.
The Russian units suffered heavy casualties, which are not specified, the Ukrainian army command said in its daily situation report on Sunday. A total of 45 Russian attacks were repelled around Bakhmut and Marjinka. The information could not be independently verified. “The enemy is suffering significant losses, but they are sticking to their plans to occupy Ukrainian territory.” Despite the large number of Russian attacks, the front line has remained unchanged.
Wagner boss rants about possible end of war
Meanwhile, Yevgeny Prigozhin, also known as “Putin’s cook”, head of the unscrupulous mercenary group “Wagner”, is causing a stir with a text he wrote himself. In it he calls for an early end to the war in Ukraine. He justified this step, among other things, with the fact that Russia would not survive a long war – the country would disintegrate. And according to him, even the Russian elites want a quick end.
No negotiations
At the same time, however, Prigozhin, whose mercenaries are currently fighting mainly for Bakhmut, spoke out against any negotiations that would provide for the transfer of Russian-held territories to Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The attacked country has cited the withdrawal of all Russian troops from its territory and the reconquest of all occupied territories as one of the conditions for ending the war.
