Judgment in Spain – Sexual abuse at “Big Brother”: imprisonment

Date:

A contestant on the TV reality show “Big Brother” has been sentenced to 15 months in prison in Spain for sexually assaulting a competitor. The crime took place in November 2017 in a bed in a TV studio converted into a home and caused a stir.

The attack took place in front of rotating cameras – but the clip was never broadcast. The production company then showed the woman the recordings, after which she filed a complaint. The two people involved were 24 years old at the time. The victim said he was drunk.

The suspect has repeatedly claimed that there were “consensual acts”. But the responsible judge saw it as proven that the victim had been abused “as a sex toy, as an object of gratification” without “the slightest semblance of consent” on the part of the woman.

The perpetrator must also pay compensation
The public prosecutor had demanded two and a half years in prison. In the end it was 15 months. The competent court in Madrid also ruled that the convicted man was not allowed to approach the victim for four years and was not allowed to have contact with the woman for that long, the Spanish judiciary announced on Monday. In addition, the suspect must pay the victim compensation of 6,000 euros.

In Spain, prison sentences of less than two years are often suspended by judges if the suspect has no criminal record. A decision on this is still pending.
