Double bad luck in Bad Ischl. The city’s only aging garbage truck has broken down and the new vehicle won’t be delivered until 2024. If the damage is repaired quickly, the waste can be collected in the second week of May. Reason: The bins are emptied every two weeks.
Bad luck rarely comes alone in Bad Ischl! Due to supply bottlenecks, the new garbage truck ordered last autumn will not be ready for use until next year at the earliest. Until then, the small vehicle purchased in 2012 specifically for the narrow streets of the city center should have provided the removal services. “Unfortunately it is now defective and can no longer drive. He has lost a lot of oil and urgently needs to go to the workshop,” regrets FPÖ municipal councilor Josef Loidl. He expects that many residents of Ischl will not have to collect their waste for a month.
Pick up every two weeks
In the Imperial City, many have their bins emptied every two weeks. The last pickup was last week. If all goes well with the repair, the obsolete truck will not be on the road again for another three weeks. “We couldn’t find a replacement anywhere in Austria,” continues Loidl.
Large garbage bags as a substitute
The FP politician intervened at the Ischler Wirtschaftshof, which is responsible for waste collection. “Everyone who calls will get a 120-litre garbage bag, which will hopefully be thrown out in three weeks and save us another political puppet show,” says Loidl. He refers to the long-standing dispute between the SP of city boss Ines Schiller and the list future Ischl of “Vize” Hannes Mathes. However, the purchase of the new garbage truck took place after at least a unanimous decision of all political groups.
