As reported, the Mayrhofen mountain rescue service made its way to a three-year-old with a head injury in a hut on the Penken on Sunday evening with a car and Skidoo. With the Penkenbahn the mission would probably have gone much faster. However, according to Florian Eder, manager of mountain rescue operations, no one could be reached from the train at night to put it into operation. So the three-year-old had to be laboriously lowered down into the valley.
Exchange of telephone numbers
The report in the “Tiroler Krone” had caused quite a stir. According to Andreas Eder, local manager of the Mayrhofen mountain rescue service, representatives of the Penkenbahn have now contacted the mountain rescue service so that such a case cannot happen again. “The telephone numbers are exchanged, because until now we had those of the railway operational managers – but not ours,” says Eder.
For example, those responsible for the railways know that they will not be awakened from their sleep at night by a prankster. For the next winter season, the rescue workers should also receive the rosters from the operations manager. So far there has been no comment from the Penkenbahn.
In Kaltenbach, on the other hand, the question of transporting the wounded has been elegantly resolved. “We have converted a quad with a closed cabin for horizontal transport, so that since 2016 we have been able to collect injured people independently of railway operations,” says Andreas Wierer, head of the Kaltenbach mountain rescue service. “It can be used in all seasons, it was financed by the mountain railways, nine municipalities, the TVB and ourselves,” he explains. Of course, if necessary, the train can also be started by a railway employee who is also a member of the mountain rescue service.
