An explosion rocked the Russian border town of Belgorod on Thursday evening. “A huge crater with a radius of 20 meters has formed at the intersection of one of the main roads,” the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, described the situation. As the Russian state news agency Tass reported, one of its own fighter jets shot down munitions.
“When a Sukhoi Su-34 aircraft flew over the city of Belgorod, aerial munitions were accidentally shot down,” the Russian defense ministry said. Two women were injured in the explosion, four cars and four houses are said to have been damaged.
Windows in nearby apartment buildings were shattered by the blast, police said. Electricity poles were cut.
