There were many questions to ex-boss Vesna Jezdimirovic about the bankruptcy of the Minibambini kindergartens in Vienna. But apparently she’s not interested in court dates. The judiciary is increasingly interested in them.
The judge, the liquidator and representatives of the creditors – all were present Friday morning in the commercial court in room 1703 to question former Minibambini boss Vesna Jezdimirovic about the bankruptcy of the kindergarten. The one who didn’t show up was Jezdimirovic himself – and without apologies.
Next appointment with a police escort?
The assembled lawyers didn’t even seem surprised given Minibambini’s history, though such contempt of court is rare in bankruptcies of this magnitude.
Perhaps Jezdimirovic will soon regret skipping the hearing date: “The insolvency court can let the debtor come forward if he does not comply with the summons,” the insolvency code clarifies. In case of “persistent refusal” even a prison sentence of up to six months is possible.
Pre-trial detention not ruled out
But the question is whether the public prosecutor will prevent the bankruptcy court: in addition to the bankruptcy, Jezdimirovic – together with three other suspects from his family – must answer for suspicion of serious fraud and other crimes. In these types of proceedings “the possibility of pre-trial detention is always taken into account,” the prosecutor’s office told the “Krone”.
Uncomfortable questions on the board
However, it is still unclear whether all Minibambini children have been given new shelters. The city coalition had stated that the final figures would be known no later than mid-April. ÖVP education spokesperson Harald Zierfuss does not want to accept “the public silence of SPÖ and Neos” and asks the city council whether Neos vice mayor Christoph Wiederkehr “has finally gained an overview or is deliberately silent”.
