The warning strike by security personnel has started at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport. “It started as planned,” Verdi union secretary Enrico Rümker confirmed to the German news agency on Monday morning. Connections with Austria are also affected.
From 3.30 am, numerous employees in aviation security, passenger control and personnel and goods control stopped. Seven flights between Berlin and Vienna will also be cancelled.
Surcharge Controversy
With the strike, the union wants to increase pressure on employers, with whom it negotiates benefits for inconvenient working hours, such as weekends. In addition, there is disagreement about rules for paying overtime. In this context, the airports of Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden already went on strike last week.
Due to Monday’s strike, passenger flights cannot take off at BER, the airport company announced in advance. Some of the planned landings are also cancelled.
