An initially unknown perpetrator broke into a stable in Freistadt (Upper Austria) on Sunday night and assaulted a mare. Fortunately, the injured animal will survive, now an intensive search is underway for the animal abuser.
The shock is still deep. And then there are the nagging questions: Who does such a thing? Who is capable of such a terrible deed? And what if the perpetrator comes back? In any case, Simone Hennerbichler still cannot believe what happened on the night from Sunday to Monday at her horse farm in Freistadt.
Injured horse found in stable
“I looked into the stable on Monday morning and suddenly there was a horse, very calm. I was still surprised when I saw that it was badly injured,” says the woman from the Mühlviertel in an interview with “Krone”. It soon turned out that the injuries were caused by a pitchfork. “At first we thought that the horse injured itself But you can’t,” she says.
The police were called. And that confirmed the terrible suspicion. The mare was not injured in an accident. The horse must have been previously injured by an animal abuser.
Fear of the perpetrator’s return
“I was out with my dogs on Sunday evening and checked everything. It must have happened at night,” says Hennerbichler, who now fears the return of the perpetrator. “Maybe he’ll come into the house too,” she says.
That is why several cameras were placed on the very extensive site on Monday, because there are no photos of the current, so terrible act. That’s why you can’t say anything about the perpetrator, not even if he happened to pass by the farm or knows the location.
The horse is now being cared for at the veterinary clinic
The horse is doing very well at the moment. “It’s in the veterinary clinic, but you still have to wait and see for the next few days, there is still a risk of infection,” says Hennerbichler. An extra burden for the owner of the mare, because the treatment costs can then amount to 10,000 euros. There is currently no trace of the perpetrator, but the police are investigating.
