Although more than 75 percent of the fiercely fought Ukrainian city of Bakhmut is said to be in Russian hands, the Ukrainian army struck a spectacular blow there. She was able to destroy a Russian munitions depot, as evidenced by footage published Wednesday (see video above).
The video shows a number of buildings allegedly housing Russian soldiers being rocked by massive explosions. Large and dark clouds of smoke rise.
Attacks with “smart bombs”?
Ukrainian media speculate that “smart bombs” known as Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM for short) may have been used in the attack on the ammunition depot. Basically, these are conversion kits for conventional bombs developed in the US, which are converted into precision weapons by means of a navigation system.
‘Demilitarization of the invaders continues’
A statement from the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine reads: “Thanks to drones, the 77th Airmobile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed an ammunition depot and a concentration of occupiers. The demilitarization of the invaders continues.”
The Joint Direct Attack Munition has been available to the Ukrainian Air Force since March as part of military aid from the West. JDAMs have been used in large numbers (more than 10,000 times) since the Kosovo War in 1999 and are among the most important air-to-ground weapon systems in Western militaries.
The images of Bakhmut were released by the Strategic Communications Office (StratCom) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the small town of Bakhmut, where the heaviest and bloodiest battles take place during the Russian offensive war, Ukrainian soldiers are currently fighting for every house. There are heavy losses on both sides.
