Detectives from the National Criminal Investigation Service of Upper Austria (LKA OÖ) have cracked down on the international drug trade in Vienna and Linz. The leaders have been tracked down and four of them are in custody.
A 23-year-old Slovak was arrested in Vienna when he tried to sell about five kilograms of high-quality marijuana. During the attempted transfer, the detectives of the Task Force for Combating Street Crime (EGS Upper Austria) were able to observe two other accomplices, one – a 37-year-old Slovak – preparing the hot goods and the second – a 49-year-old Slovak – controls the escape vehicle. These two accomplices were also arrested.
Perpetrators in the circle of next of kin
During the first interrogations it turned out that the young drug dealer is the son of the driver of the getaway car and that the supplier is a distant relative. The Slovak trio is accused of having smuggled several kilos of marijuana from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to Austria in the past year and resold it in Vienna and Linz for a hefty profit premium.
Second leg
However, this connection was apparently not enough for the 23-year-old Slovak. With his cousin – a 26-year-old Slovak – and a 27-year-old Czech – he set up a second mainstay by selling more kilograms of marijuana from the Czech Republic in the Linz area.
Underage consumers
In March 2023, another 21-year-old Austrian with Dominican roots was arrested in Linz, who was an important distributor of the young marijuana group from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In the apartment of the young Austrian, where a newborn baby also lived, there was a bustle of marijuana customers. Minors were also among the buyers.
In total, at least 15 kg of marijuana was smuggled into Austria and sold with a street value of several hundred thousand euros. The trio from Vienna and the young man from Linz are currently awaiting trial in the prison of Linz (remand).
