A Kosovar who was bored of the time behind bars in Ried was ready for a holiday. So he used an exit to “turn”. And he managed to go into hiding for almost three weeks before he was caught in Linz. But whether it was really a holiday is doubtful.
On April 6, 2023, the 38-year-old Kosovar was allowed to leave Ried im Innkreis prison to do personal things. He used this exit to escape.
Convicted of serious property crimes
Because he had been behind bars for a long time, he had been sentenced by the regional court in Linz to an unconditional prison sentence of twelve months and by the regional court in Leoben to an unconditional prison sentence of 20 months for several serious crimes against property.
Prisoner must be ‘holiday detention’
But it wasn’t a real holiday: after he had gone into hiding he had to keep changing hiding places to avoid being caught again. But on the 29th April 1, 2023, the 38-year-old was tracked down in Linz by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department and arrested by agents of the Rapid Intervention Group.
The Kosovar said he wanted to take a longer break from prison as he would face no further punishment for his escape. He was returned to the prison of Ried im Innkreis and must now be “captured” for three weeks of vacation.
