20 young women sat on the maypole
In the morning, the rural youth organized the erection of the maypole and the participants wanted to take the maypole to the place of construction with a tractor and trailer from a company. A 26-year-old man was driving the tractor. Before he drove off, about 20 young women sat on the maypole and held each other.
Ten of the girls lost their balance and fell about five feet on the asphalt floor because the maypole, which was fastened with straps, twisted or slipped a bit when driving away. Four young women between the ages of 17 and 24 suffered minor injuries and were taken to Braunau hospital by the Red Cross. The six other girls who fell were unharmed and drew lapels.
