From May 1 – Corona: End of mask obligation for doctors & co

Date:

On Monday 1 May, a number of the existing Corona rules will expire. This means that the obligation to wear a mouth mask until recently is also a thing of the past in vulnerable areas such as hospitals, homes for the elderly and nursing homes and in doctor’s practices. The so-called risk group exemption will also be cancelled. At the end of June, the obligation to report a Covid disease will also be a thing of the past.

Despite the end of the mask obligation, doctors can still insist that patients and supervisors wear an FFP2 mask in the practice. This may be the case, for example, if people with poor health need to be protected or if patients enter the practice with symptoms such as a cough or runny nose, the Medical Association clarifies.

“Pandemic goes, virus stays”
The government already decided on February 1 in the Council of Ministers on the timetable for the end of the Corona measures. “The pandemic is going, the virus is staying and we will be able to deal with it,” said Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) at the time.

In addition to the end of face masks, the so-called risk group exemption – the corona-related exemption scheme for risk groups – will come to an end. This offered protection to those people who had to fear an increased risk of Covid-19 disease due to previous illnesses. So far, the employer has reimbursed 100 percent of the cost of the leave.

From 1 July there is no longer an obligation to register
Before the summer holidays – on July 1 – SARS-CoV-2 is no longer a notifiable disease. The traffic restrictions that are still in force for people who have tested positive will therefore be cancelled. Although infected people do not currently have to be quarantined, they are required to wear an FFP2 mask indoors and outdoors when in close contact with other people.
