Not only thunderstorms with heavy hail, but also another weather phenomenon surprised some Lower Austrians on Saturday – and probably also worried. A tornado was observed in the Waldviertel, which also caused a lot of destruction.
The natural event was limited to the town of Oberfladnitz in the Horn district, which has about 70 inhabitants. There was significant property damage, police said.
No injuries
The tornado probably moved from the fields to the small cadastral community, drawing a swath about 20 meters wide, the ORF Lower Austria reported. No one was injured, Mayor Reinhard Nowak confirmed.
“It was over in two minutes”
Only Oberfladnitz was hit and not the entire cadastral community, Nowak said. “Within two minutes it was all over.” According to the mayor, two families are the most affected. He hopes that the damage to property will be covered by insurance, the local boss said.
